Gmail, Maps Now Have Google Assistant Built-In to Check for Spelling and Grammar Mistakes

Google has released a new version of its Bard generative AI chatbot. The new update enables the integration of the chatbot with Google applications and services, such as Gmail, Docs, Drive, Maps, YouTube, and Google Flights and Hotels.

Google calls this version of Bard its most powerful model yet, and has improved the “Google it” feature to check the accuracy of Bard’s answers.

Citing an example, Google said you could apply for a new job and use Bard to help you through the process. “You can ask Bard to ‘find my resume titled June 2023 in my Drive and summarize it into a short paragraph personal statement’ and continue working on your new cover letter,” Google explained.

Regarding privacy issues, Google also clarified that when you use Google Bard’s Workspace extensions, auditors or Google employees cannot access or view your content from Google apps such as Gmail, Docs, and Drive. And Bard can’t use it to serve tailored ads or provide training.

Google is also improving the Google It experience. Now Google “verifies” its answers when users click the “G” icon. Bard checks the content and searches the web to verify whether the generated response is genuine or not. “When a statement can be evaluated, you can click on the highlighted phrases to learn more about the information that supports or contradicts what the search found,” Google added.

Additionally, Google mentioned that all of this is made possible by improvements to its PaLM 2 Large Language model, which is notably its most advanced model until Gemini.
